((Rock Plaza Central)) Band Profile and Upcoming SXSW Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Rock Plaza Central are Canadians that create an eclectic form of folk-Americana (if that makes sense). These seven Toronto musicians incorporate guitars, horns, strings and accordions to make music they liken to "an acoustic Modest Mouse." Maybe.

I hear some Decemberists, some Neutral Milk Hotel and a little bit of that Beirut worldliness in these songs, but Modest Mouse? I guess the slightly warbled vocals sort of sound like Isaak Brock. But it might be more apt to consider Rock Plaza Central's music as "Ph.D. Pop." It just sounds sort of brainy, the kind of music those studious 30-something Park Slopians get off on.

Yep, something smart seems to be going on here, but I'm too much of a dummy to figure out what. I don't hear a whole lot of the "Rock" in their name. To me, it's more like "Pleasant Plaza Central."
