Shocking Pinks
New Zealand's Shocking Pinks is the one-man-band moniker taken on by Nick Harte. Although his fine full-length debut was released in fall of 2007 by DFA Records, dont except any cowbells clanging or dance-punk beat-downs when listening to this guy. Think more home-recorded shoegazing singer/songwriter stuff that sounds like a cross between Jesus & Bloody Valentine meets Say Hi To Your Space Holiday.
Shocking Pinks' songs certainly aren't glossy. There's a raw, almost muddled, quality to these recordings. But Harte's strong sing-able melodies are still able to shine through in spite of (or because of) the low production values. And there's nothing really shocking going on here. Shocking Pinks just make synth-y two-and-a-half minute songs for your pop pleasure.
